Soft Skills
During this year developing soft skills will be a focus of the Career Education department so that when the economy turns around our girls will have a competitive edge when applying for jobs.
Our students have high aspirations - they do not want to work in just any old job and neither should they. School can provide an opportunity to gain a better qualification which can lead to a better job, but it is also a place where “Soft Skills” can be developed.
In the world of work soft skills are those personal qualities which can give one person an edge over another when competing for a job. They are things like reliability, respect, punctuality, leadership, communication, initiative, teamwork, manners and many others. These tie in with three of the five Key Competencies in the New New Zealand curriculum: managing self, relating to others, and participation.
