Work Experience

Work experience is intended to give students a greater understanding of work in general, and of a particular field of work. This experience is invaluable as it helps students learn about what is expected of them at work as well as helping them to make career decisions.

The ability of the school to place a student in their desired industry is dependent on employers’ willingness and ability to accept students on work experience. Whilst every effort is made to match the type of work experience a student is looking for, on occasion the placement may turn out to be slightly different to what is initially requested.

The length of the placement will vary depending on the industry and employer preference/availability. eg a student may only have the opportunity for a one day career visit whilst others may be able to be placed for 5 days in one week.

Approval of a work experience request is determined by your school attendance record, teacher consent and parental consent.

Acceptance is also subject to the following conditions:

1. The student will not be marked absent but has to let her teachers know.

2. The student is responsible for catching up on any class work that she misses due to being on a work experience palcement.

3. The student will be required to be at school for NCEA assessments so placements must be organised around assessment dates. Being on work experience is not grounds for compassionate consideration.

To request a work experience placement please complete an appointment form (Mrs Summerfield) from the box inside the foyer of P4.
