Students at Avonside have a wealth of opportunities to become involved in sport. Many recreational activities are available as well as the regular interschool competitions. At the competitive level we have individuals and teams achieving considerable success.

Avonside students competed in the Canterbury Athletics Champs in Timaru last weekend, 23-24 February. Olivia Maisey, Meikayla Moore, Kelly Marshall and Bri Wilson all did very well.
Olivia won the 400m for U18 women and was placed 3rd in the 200m U18 womens final. Meikayla placed 2nd in both the 100m and 200m U18 womens final. Kelly won the triple jump U18 women and Bri made the final for both 100m and 200m U18 women.

NZ title for AGHS at NZSS Athletics Championships in Dunedin!
Avonside's team, competing at the National Secondary Schools' Athletics Championships in Dunedin performed with distinction.
The Senior girls' relay team (Fuatai Lai Kong, Meikayla Moore, Kelly Marshall, Olivia Maisey) won a gold medal in a personal best time. As well as this wonderful achievement, the team also brought home two silver medals and two bronze medals.
Olivia Maisey was 2nd in the Senior Girls 400m, while Sarah Meikle placed 2nd in the 2000m walk. Kelly Marshall was 3rd in the Junior Triple Jump and Meikayla Moore was 3rd in the Senior Girl's 200m.
The remaining members of the team also performed creditably, with Fuatai Lai Kong placed in the Junior Girls' Long Jump and Jess Rathgen 6th in the Senior Girls' Hammer Throw.
These results are outstanding! Congratulations girls.
