Board of Trustees

The Avonside Girls’ High School Board of Trustees works in partnership with school management and is responsible for performing the governance and control functions. Specifically, these include being:

• the employer of all staff in the school

• responsible for setting the school’s strategic direction in consultation with parents, staff, and students, and is

• responsible for providing a safe environment and quality education for all our students.

• oversight of the management of personnel, curriculum, property, and finance including all school assets.

The Board meets twice a term, on Wednesday in weeks 3 and 8. The meetings are open to the public and are held in the meeting room at the school at 5.30 pm. Members of the public who wish to attend should familiarise themselves with these procedures.

Analysis of Variance

Any inquiries, suggestions, complaints, or discussions regarding operational matters at school should be directed to the Principal in the first instance – Mrs. Sue Hume.  If however your questions or comments are directly related to any of the Board responsibilities e.g. our School Charter, long term property, or asset management then these issues should be directed to the Board Chairperson – Mr. Jonathon Brooks.

Parent Teacher Association

The PTA aims to provide a friendly, welcoming and open environment for parents and caregivers to learn more about the school, the staff, the board and their respective activities, as well as an opportunity to share their comments, concerns and ideas.

The PTA also endeavours to support the school community by assisting at school functions and raising funds for resources and activities that all the students will benefit from.

New members and new ideas are always welcome – if you are interested in joining the PTA and supporting your daughter to have positive experiences during her time at Avonside Girls’ High School, then we would love to meet you.

Meetings are held every month on a Monday. 

Avonside Old Girls’ Association

The Old Girls’ Association’s aim is to support school activities and provide a forum for past pupils to maintain an active interest in the school and continue long term friendships.

We hold two functions a year where all former pupils are welcome. We also send out a annual newsletter (digital or hard copy) to all Association members.

We have branches in Christchurch, Akaroa, Auckland, Dunedin, Marlborough, Nelson/Motueka, Tauranga, Timaru, Wellington. Please contact Patricia Turner, Secretary, 9807932 for further details.

Annual subscription $10. Life membership $50.
